Generally my kids wont take Vazhapoo poriyal as such , but they do love this vadai.It is a wonderful afterschool snack for my kids.
Ingredients
Channa dhal (Kadala parupu): 1.25 cup
Banana Flower: 1
Rice flour: 1 tablespoon
Chopped onion: 1/2 cup
Jeera (Cumin seeds): 1 tsp
Hing: a pinch
Salt: 1.5 tsp
Green chillies: 1 or 2 (as per taste)
Chopped ginger: 1 tablespoon
Butter milk: 1 cup
Oil: to fry
Step1:
Soak the dhal in water for 2 hours
Step2:
Remove the stamen from the banana florets , chop them and soak them in butter milk.
Step3:
Cook the florets in little water in low flame for about 5 minutes
Step4:
Drain the dhal and grind it coarsely without adding much water
Step5:
Now mix the dhal, banana florets, salt, hing, onion, ginger, cumin seeds,rice flour together. Rice flour adds crispness to the vada
Step6:
Add curry leaves and chopped coriander leaves
Step7:
Heat oil in a pan. Take a lemon sized ball of dough, flatten it in your palm and drop them gently in the hot oil
Step8:
Fry until golden brown
